Brittany started Happy Trout Pet Treats as a way to share the high quality nutrients of the fish she was raising with other pet parents. Small trout, fillet trim, and trout organs that were once simply discarded were transformed into high quality, shelf-stable, human-grade pet treats, as a way to honor the fish and the pets that enjoy them. Her team of Harriet (cattle dog mix) and Henry (chihuahua mix) as well as her girls (flock of backyard chickens) did a lot of taste testing of different styles of dried trout until settling on freeze-drying, which maintained the nutrients to the best degree as well as providing a satisfying crunch.
Starting small with only the trout that she raised, Happy Trout Pet Treats is excited to expand in the near future to collect and share fish products from other responsibly raised and captured fish, supporting American farmers, fishermen, and their communities.
