The Origin of Canine Candy: Juliana's Story

The Catalyst

Titan Canine Candy Dog Biscuit Co. wasn't started in a boardroom; it was born out of a direct need for better provisions. Our founder, Juliana, had a 150lb St. Bernard named Titan who battled a variety of health issues. Generic, filler-heavy junk treats simply weren't an option for him. He needed clean, reliable nutrition that wouldn't upset his system.

The "Aha" Moment at the Brewery

At the time, Juliana was working at Odell Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado. While there, she took notice of a unique, localized partnership between the brewery and a local dairy farmer named Lugene. Lugene treated his cows like family, and he regularly picked up the brewery's leftover barley spent grain to feed his herd. Juliana realized something crucial: if a farmer who cared that deeply about the health and longevity of his animals was feeding them this brewing byproduct, it had to pack some serious nutritional value.

Deploying the First Batch

After diving into the research, Juliana discovered exactly how nutrient-dense and fiber-rich spent grain is for dogs. It was the perfect, highly digestible base she had been looking for to support Titan's health. She hauled a 5-gallon bucket of spent grain home from the brewery, fired up the oven, and Canine Candy Biscuits was officially born. Today, that same functional, upcycled fuel is what we use to keep the rest of the pack moving.

About Our Product

The Crumble Factor

Our biscuits hold their shape in the bag, but break apart effortlessly to serve as an instant bowl upgrade over their daily kibble, an easy bite for a senior dog with missing teeth, or a quick reinforcement out on the trail. It is pure, predictable gut security designed to keep your dog's system rock solid.

The Barley-Only Rule

When fielding questions from customers—especially regarding allergies, sensitive stomachs, or our upcycling process—the most critical thing your team should know is that we exclusively use barley spent grain.

Breweries brew with a wide variety of grains, including wheat and rye. However, wheat is a common allergen for dogs and can cause digestive issues or skin flare-ups. Because our entire brand was built on providing clean fuel for a dog with a highly sensitive system (Titan), we refuse to introduce that risk.

We deliberately only source barley from our brewery partners. Barley is a highly digestible, nutrient-dense, and incredibly fiber-rich powerhouse that is exceptionally gentle on a dog's digestive tract.

The Takeaway for Customer Service: If a customer asks about allergies, grain content, or what makes our treats different, your team can confidently tell them:

We use zero mystery grains. Our provisions are 100% free of wheat, corn, and soy. By exclusively using barley paired with coconut flour, we deliver predictable gut security that owners can trust for everyday use.

Customer FAQs

Are there hops or alcohol in these biscuits?

Absolutely not. We get this question a lot because of our brewery connections. The spent grain we use is the malted barley left over after the brewing steeping process, but before any alcohol is produced or hops are introduced. They are 100% safe, non-alcoholic, and hop-free.

My dog has a sensitive stomach/allergies. Can they eat these?

Yes. We built this company for a dog with a highly sensitive system. We enforce a strict "barley-only" rule—meaning no wheat, no corn, and no soy. We pair the upcycled barley exclusively with coconut flour to deliver clean, highly digestible gut security that is safe for sensitive stomachs.

Are these biscuits too hard for senior dogs or puppies?

No, thanks to our "Crumble Factor." While they hold their shape perfectly in the bag or your pocket, they break apart effortlessly. They are incredibly easy to chew for senior dogs with missing teeth, and they can be easily snapped in half for puppies in training.

What is a "bowl upgrade"?

Because of the Crumble Factor, you don't just have to use these as standalone treats. Customers can crush a biscuit directly over their dog's daily kibble. It acts as an instant bowl upgrade, adding a massive hit of flavor and heart-healthy fiber to their regular meals.

Where are Canine Candy biscuits made?

We are proudly based out of Loveland, Colorado. Every biscuit is built by hand using grain upcycled directly from local Northern Colorado craft breweries.

What does "Rescue of the Season" mean?

This brand is about more than just biscuits. We feature a new Colorado "Rescue of the Season" every quarter. A portion of every online sale goes directly to the boots on the ground saving dogs in our community.
